What We Do
The Bodie Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, and public enjoyment of Bodie State Historic Park, Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve, and Grover Hot Springs State Park.
KEEP BODIE STANDING
As one of the last real American ghost towns, Bodie hasn’t been restored or recreated. What visitors see today is exactly what was left behind when Bodie was abandoned almost a century ago. Homes, businesses, artifacts and entire streets remain frozen in time.
A National Historic Landmark and one of the most intact historic mining landscapes in the United States, Bodie covers over 1,000 acres (with another almost 4,000 proposed to be added in a recent National Historic Landmark update) and still includes more than 150 original historic buildings. Fires in the past destroyed much of the original town. What remains today is irreplaceable. State funding alone cannot keep pace with deterioration caused by extreme weather and age. Community support makes the difference between stabilization and permanent loss.

We tried to get ahead of anyone’s disappointments and share on social media that work was still being done on the dirt portion of […]

A Long-Term Stabilization Plan (LTSP) IS NOT a thrown together list of buildings that look like they need work. It IS a gathering of all involved parties (Maintenance Workers in […]

Bodie’s Methodist Church has been a reminder that not all were lost in the rough and rowdy mining town. In the last several years, the church has started to shift and lean north-west in a more obvious manner. This issue has become the number one priority for the State Parks Cultural Resources and Maintenance departments […]

I was notified this week that the upper gate to Bodie off of Highway 270 will open July 1. This is a week later than we were expecting, but there are still visitor services issues that need to be addressed. The lower gate on Highway 270 is currently still closed, as the State Park road […]
